It Sure Is Monday…
You would think that if it’s summertime, “The Mondays” would leave you alone. Today at my house that does not seem to be the case. In fact, I’m pretty sure our Monday started last Wednesday. My Glow Worm is sick. Rotten luck for a kid to get sick when there’s no threat of school. He’s been coughing a dry, annoying cough (annoying for him) for a week. And three days ago, he started telling me that his tummy hurts. Last night he started in with a low-grade temp. I knew yesterday at church he wasn’t feeling well, when we lost him…don’t worry, we found him, asleep on the couch in the lobby. He was completely OUT. He then continued to sleep through the entire service, came home and went back to sleep.
I had some errands to run yesterday afternoon, so I left the kids in the care of my sweet hubby. As I was on my home, I called to check in on them–only to find that my oldest kiddo had been asleep for the last two and a half hours!! Really?! All of my mommy warning systems were going off. This is my ten-year-old who constantly and consistently fights me on sleep of any kind, and he voluntarily took a nap. Terrific. Something tells me I now have two sick kids. Sure enough, I got home to find him with a 101.2 degree fever. Awesome.
Did I mention that I am heading to Florida (roadtrip) with the kids on Sunday??!! Yeah, great timing. Not that there’s really ever a good time to get sick. So, today I’m headed back to the doctor with my little Glow Worm in tow for the most fun appointment ever–the finger prick. We need to find out what’s really going on, and even though my pediatrician is brilliant beyond brilliant–even she needs to look past the surface. Poor little dude, he’s in for a really rough day. My oldest kiddo?? Well, his fever broke about eight hours after it appeared. Kids are the weirdest carrier monkeys in the world. They pick up all sorts of germs, and bring them home, pass them around, and then in a FLASH–they’re gone! The germs, not the kids.
Now, as for our vacation? Well, I suppose that hinges on what the good doctor has to say about my little guy. Obviously, if he has a really weird and exotic baby disease I cannot drive to Florida and infect my entire family or the masses that will be visiting the Happiest Place on Earth at the same time we will. I guess time will tell. Stay tuned for updates!!
Here’s hoping your Monday is germ-free and fabulous!
